Reopening Southern Maryland

Reopening Southern Maryland

Reopening Southern Maryland

Effective this evening, May 15, 2020 at 5 p.m. Maryland’s stay-at-home order will expire and the state will move to a “safer-at-home” advisory, per an update from Governor Hogan on Wednesday, May 13, 2020. Today also begins the implementation of phase one of the Maryland Strong: Roadmap to Recovery Plan. Phase one includes the reopening of retail stores, personal services (i.e. barbers and salons), carwashes, and religious services all at 50% capacity. These businesses will also have to comply with strict safety guidelines to ensure the health of patrons. State parks will be able to reopen as well. Maryland residents are reminded that social distancing measures and masks are still required and gatherings of 10 or more people are still banned. Hogan noted that not every jurisdiction will be required to follow his guidelines for implementing phase one of the Recovery Plan. In response to Governor Hogan’s announcement on Wednesday, Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties have all announced their individual plans to begin reopening. Read on below for some highlights as well as links for full details.

Calvert County

Calvert County announced today that it will parallel actions taken by the state in order to reopen the county. It also announced on May 14, 2020 another 30-day extension of the county-wide state of emergency declaration, which does not affect how it will reopen. Additionally, some parks have been allowed to reopen, with some restrictions of course. For full details, visit Calvert County’s COVID-19 Virtual Response Center.

Charles County

Charles County announced that its stay-at-home order will remain in effect through May 28, 2020. Beginning May 29, 2020, the county will begin implementing Governor Hogan’s phase one for reopening.

St. Mary’s County

St. Mary’s County announced that it will be paralleling the state’s actions for reopening. Beginning today at 5 p.m. phase one of Governor Hogan’s Recovery Plan will be in full effect for all of St. Mary’s County residents and applicable businesses.
